Education leaders in Canada are revising high school graduation requirements to better align with evolving technology and skills needs. Recent changes include Alberta reducing diploma exam weightings and Newfoundland and Labrador cancelling public exams. Provinces like the Northwest Territories are adopting new curricula and assessments. Each province has distinct graduation criteria, generally requiring a mix of compulsory and optional credits, final assessments, and volunteer hours. These updates aim to equip students with essential knowledge and competencies for modern societal and job market demands, addressing the need for digital literacy, STEM skills, and soft skills like critical thinking and adaptability.
