Indigenous Knowledge and Representation in Canadian Curricula
In a 2021 research report written by Laura Pasquariello, she addresses representations of Indigenous knowledge in Canadian secondary school curricula. By engaging in a culturally relevant gender based analysis (CRGBA) as endorsed by the Native Women's Association, the structure and form of how Canada's provinces and territories portray the history of Indigenous Peoples is examined. In particular, the extent to which school curricula reflect the realities of "first contact" between European settlers and Canada's First Peoples is a central focus of the book. The purpose is to consider the role of the education system in helping or hindering reconciliation between contemporary settlers and Canada's Indigenous Peoples.
